InterHigh School's 15/16 Academic Year

Thank You

We have arrived at the last day of term of the 15/16 academic year and I wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone associated with Interhigh School for their contribution this year and thus far in the school's history.
You'll notice I call it a school, for that's what it is, not distance learning, not remote learning, not home education, not virtual learning but an online school that is looking to become a recognised outstanding independent school.

I'd like thank and congratulate all the PUPILS who have made great progress this year.
You have often shown courage and resilience where you thought you had none. You have supported your classmates and some of you have reached milestones that you never thought possible, well done. Please take a moment to turn and thank your parents for affording you this very unique opportunity. If you are leaving school this year we will miss you, but we wish you all the very best on your continuing journey. Please do keep in touch and if we can be of any assistance in the future please do not hesitate to contact us, thank you.

I'd like to thank all the wonderful STAFF of Interhigh for their continual dedication and commitment to the School and for supporting its young students in their learning and progress. They never give up on anyone and are always at the ready to make learning fun with inspirational lessons and teaching, thank you. Administrative, Technical and Support staff continually make sure everything runs smoothly and they keep a happy working school, thank you.

I'd like to thank all the PARENTS and families of Interhigh for their support. We value the very significant part you play and your positive contributions always serve to motivate us further. The assistance and feedback you willingly provide is always invaluable, thank you.
We also benefit from the support of many education authorities, schools and organisations that support young people.

It's a great team effort and I'm looking forward to Interhigh School's 12th academic year. We have lots of improvements that we plan to make and with everyone's contribution we will realise our very ambitious vision.
See you there

Congratulations to Libby

RHS Malvern Spring Festival

I'm Libby Hudson from year 9 Caracals and I recently took part in designing a garden at a big RHS show, similar to the Chelsea flower show: the RHS Malvern spring festival. I designed, created and presented a garden for the Schools Garden Challenge. I decided to take part in this experience as I am interested in being a landscape designer when I'm older. The theme was the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death so I decided to do the Merchant of Venice after studying it last year. I wanted it to be a relaxing garden that you can imagine being in so added subtle touches of the play.

I used three props to represent the three themes - two silver rings to represent the love story between Bassanio and Portia, a money tree to represent the character Shylock and a lead casket to show the choice that Bassanio has to make for Portia's hand in marriage. The garden was a formal herb garden and everything had a meaning. I created a formal garden to represent the Italian renaissance gardens and Elizabethan knot gardens and herbs because of their importance in Shakespeare's time. It was an amazing experience. It has been a working process since last September and I have met lots of people and have been able to practice lots of useful skills for later life.

The build up started mid April (this year) and even though it was stressful it was really fun and it was worth it in the end. The show was amazing and I met Alan Titchmarsh, saw Mary Berry and became friends with TV gardener Chris Collins! Gardening isn't necessarily thought of as a 'cool' thing to do but it was really fun and I felt as if I developed as a person. I also got the chance to promote Interhigh and had lots of people ask questions.

InterHigh Running Club

  InterHigh Running Club

We are aware that as an internet school it can be difficult to promote exercise and a healthy lifestyle. There appears to be more and more ‘virtual running clubs’ emerging and as a prominent internet presence we don’t intend on getting left behind. We have set up a group on Facebook called InterHigh Running Club which any student of InterHigh is able to join. It is a closed group and no-one outside of InterHigh can join. We will set you challenges, operate leader boards and run virtual races (excuse the pun).

The first challenge has already been set which will run throughout the month of May starting on May 1st.  The BHF (British Heart Foundation) have set up an event to run a marathon (26.2 miles) in the month of May, we are kick starting our challenges with this one...promoting healthy hearts!

Conquer 26.2 miles throughout May. Whether it’s at the park, in the gym or around the streets. Over a few days, a couple of weeks or the whole month – you decide the pace and you decide the place. Simply screenshot your distance on ANY running app and send it to rhiannon@interhigh.co.uk.
Leader Boards will be updated to the Facebook group so you can all follow each other’s progress or compete against your friends.

Student Art Club and Zentangled InterHigh

A few weeks back one of our Science teachers, Lucy Spalding, hosted an Interhigh Common Room session looking at the art of Zentangle - a yoga for the brain.
During this very well received Common Room Lucy explained that Zentangle is an easy to learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Not only is it fun and relaxing but it has been shown to be a useful tool in stress control and anxiety management. Research in neuroscience shows that doodling can help people stay focused, grasp new concepts and retain information. Lucy took us through a series of steps and examples. With no right or wrong, no orientation and abstract forms we began to see how beautiful patterns could be created.

All the students enjoyed it enjoyed it and the Interhigh Art Club took on the challenge of learning a new skill based on Zentangle. After a lot of hard work  the Art Club have produced a "Zentangled InterHigh".

This is the first ever piece of work that the Art Club have produced collectively. We think you will agree that this is a beautiful pattern and has been adopted as one of the school logins. Congratulations to the Students of InterHigh Art Club.
